Adults 65+ with a Disability

Select a Census Place
Measurement Period: 2018-2022
This indicator shows the percentage of the population aged 65 years and over that are limited in any activities because of physical, mental, or emotional problems.

Why is this important?

People with a disability have difficulties performing activities due to a physical, mental, or emotional condition. The extent to which a person is limited by a disability is heavily dependent on the social and physical environment in which he or she lives. Without sufficient accommodations, people with disabilities may have difficulties living independently. Rates of disability increase sharply with age. Disability takes a much heavier toll on the very old. There is often a strong relationship between disability status and reported health status, and many individuals with disabilities require more specialized health care and assistance as a result of the disability. Several federal agencies use information on the size, distribution, and needs of the disabled population in order to develop policies, distribute funds, and develop programs for individuals with disabilities.
